GEM Production Line
Over twelve years ago, Global Electric Motorcars introduced its first electric vehicle, and today, still strives to design the most innovative line of vehicles that are versatile, efficient and affordable. With more than 40,000 vehicles on the road, we pride ourselves in manufacturing the world's best electric vehicle.





GEM History
Month/Year Milestone
Dec. 1997 Global Electric Motorcars is founded.
April 1998 First GEM vehicle produced in Fargo, North Dakota.
Oct. 1998 GEM two-passenger long-back (now known as the GEM eL) is introduced.
Nov. 1998 GEM two-passenger short-back (now known as the GEM eS) is introduced.
Dec. 1998 GEM four-passenger (now known as the GEM e4) is introduced.
Dec. 2000 DaimlerChrysler Corporation acquires Global Electric Motorcars.
June 2000 Global Electric Motorcars and DaimlerChrysler embark on an aggressive market awareness campaign in the United States.
Sept. 2002 New automated production line begins operation.
Oct. 2003 Global Electric Motorcars and DaimlerChrysler successfully complete market awareness campaign, positioning GEM vehicles as the leading and premiere LSV in the world.
March 2004 Global Electric Motorcars introduces and begins production of the all-new redesigned line of vehicles.
June 2005 Global Electric Motorcars receives its ‘ISO 9001:2000 Registered' Certification.
Jan. 2006 Global Electric Motorcars has over 150 dealers nationwide and is expanding its national and international distribution channels.
April 2006 Global Electric Motorcars releases its fifth new product to its line of vehicles; the new GEM e6 six-passenger vehicle.
Sept. 2006 Global Electric Motorcars releases its sixth new product to its line of vehicles; the new GEM eL XD extra-duty long-back utility vehicle.
Aug. 2007 Global Electric Motorcars remains a Chrysler company following the sale of the Chrysler Group to Cerberus Financial.
Dec. 2007 Global Electric Motorcars celebrates its 10th anniversary.
June 2009 Global Electric Motorcars remains a wholly owned subsidiary of Chrysler Group LLC
